Good job for showing up! Just keep doing that and you'll make radical and positive changes in your life.

The first and fundamental step is to get *present*. This gives you a choice in everything. Otherwise you're running on a competing mess of autopilots.

Your informal practice today (the formal practice is what we're doing together in the mornings) is to take one deliberate breath, many times throughout your day.


Taking one deliberate breath will buy you a moment of presence. Each time you choose to do this, you are exercising that proactive -- take control of your own mind -- muscle. As you get familiar with and develop this muscle, you will begin to develop a sense of presence as a steady background hum in your life.
